Facial gua sha is one of the most effective ways to lift, sculpt, and contour the face with immediate results. When practiced regularly and correctly, this technique promotes better circulation, healthier skin tissues, and stronger facial muscles. Additionally, it reduces puffiness, diminishes the appearance of fine lines, and improves skin texture and elasticity. With these changes in your skin, you will achieve a more youthful, toned complexion with a natural glow.

Gua sha helps with aging by increasing circulation and promoting healthy lymphatic flow, improving overall skin function. As with facial massage, I recommend practicing gua sha in the direction of lymphatic flow, starting at the neck and gently moving upward. This helps to remove stagnant energy and toxin buildup, which can eventually improve underlying conditions such as acne, pigmentation, and rosacea.

Working on the entire neck is essential before moving on to the face area. The neck influences what happens on your face, so you really need to take your time in that area and be gentle, as there are a lot of lymph nodes. If you have any breakouts or skin issues on your face, you can skip that part and work on just your neck. You can continue with your routine focusing on your neck and return to your face once the condition improves or clears up.

It's important to make facial gua sha a relaxing experience. Breathe deeply, move slowly, and most importantly, stay well hydrated. You can practice this ritual as often as daily or two to three times a week, either in the morning or at night. For best results, perform each movement 5 to 10 times per area. It's recommended to do it earlier in the day, so you can continue drinking water and focus on hydration. It's preferable in the mornings, as it makes you feel and look more awake. The more you incorporate this into your regular skincare routine, the more you will transform the way you look and feel.

It's crucial to prep your skin for gua sha. Make sure your skin is completely clean. Apply an oil, balm, or lotion that will allow the tool to glide through with ease. Oil is best, but the important thing is to use what works for your skin and won't cause breakouts or irritation. Make sure your product is non-toxic and nutrient-rich to promote lymphatic flow. You can also add a hydrating spray.

SOME IMPORTANT GUIDELINES TO REMEMBER:

  • Relax, breathe deeply, and move slowly with intention.

  • Hold the tool or stone flat and in contact with the skin, applying light to medium pressure.

  • Drink plenty of water before, during, and after practicing gua sha.

  • Avoid working on problem areas, breakouts, open wounds, raised scars, or any irritation.

  • If you've recently had Botox, wait three to four weeks or consult your doctor.

  • Avoid working on areas with facial fillers.
